Down Goes Last Year's State Champs!
A special congratulations to the
U16 Blues who return to the New York State Cup Semi-Finals for the second year in a row.
The Blues beat the 2011 state champion and current #3 Nationally Ranked Massapequa Arsenal 2-1 Saturday night. After waiting for two hours for the refs to show up to the field in Massapequa, the Blues remained focused and ready to play beating the Arsenal in hard fought match in front of over 300 fans.
Blues head coach,
Brandon Beck stated, "The game brought out a lot of character from our boys. They remained focused and disciplined defensively which led to our creating successful scoring drives to keep the game in our control. I am proud of the boys, but we have been to the semi final before and we want to do something better this year!"
The Blues will host the semi final on Saturday against Downtown United Soccer Club at 12:15pm at Tibbets Park Field #3. This is a rematch of last year's quarterfinal where the Blues won in penalty kicks. Come and support your club!
EFC Chiefs End A Great Run
The
U17 Chiefs lost 4-3 to Lakegrove United last Saturday night in a hard fought quarterfinal match.
Lake Grove is currently ranked among the top 5 teams nationally and the Chiefs began the match with an early 2-0 lead. Head Coach
Jeff Fleischmann commented, "Our team was able to compete with one of the best teams in the nation Saturday and I am very proud of that. We had a great run, much further than last year, and it only shows how far we have come. We continue to get stronger each time we step on the pitch together and our focus is now on winning the Super Group of the upcoming regional tournament to earn our place in Nationals!"
